ARMS: Azure, a chevron between in chief three estoiles Or and in base an eagle regardant wings displayed Proper its breast charged with a saltire Sable, all within a bordure Or.

CREST: On a rock an eagle regardant wings displayed all Proper the breast and each wing charged with an estoileas in the Arms.

MOTTO: Sit Mihi Libertas

The arms were originally granted by Ulster King of arms on 7 November 1863 to an ancestor and matriculated for the petitioner with a suitable difference by the Lord Lyon and recorded in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland on 6 July 2017.

Alexander John Maxwell Findlater, born in 1951 received his BA in Classics from Bristol University in 1972 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1978 and married in 1983 Harriet Ann Hyde daughter of Edmund Francis Hyde Parker. They have two daughters who are university graduates. He founded Alexr. Findlater & Co. Ltd., Wine Merchant and Shippers in 1983 from which he more or less retired in 1994 to spend time as a private investor in the buying and selling of properties. A distinguished member of the Heraldry Society of Scotland, he has written numerous articles and two books: “Aspilogia Scoticana” or Scots Armorials from the earliest times to the start of the eighteenth century, Heraldry Society of Scotland, 2006; and “ Lord Crawford’s Armorial” formerly known as The Armorial of Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount, Secundus of which he served as the editor, Heraldry Society of Scotland, 2008. We are aware he has completed his latest work of editing of Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount’s “Scottish Heraldic Manuscript” of 1542, which is now ready for publication of anew this Fall by the Heraldry Society of Scotland.
