ARMS: Argent, three lions passant, reguardant in pale, gules,
armed and langued azure, a chief, gules, semi of stars, Argent,

SOURCE/NOTES & CREDITS:

Arms date to 5 Jun 1859, the date of his creation as Duc de Magenta by Emperor. Napoleon III, from the "Armorial General", J.B. Rietstap 2nd Ed., 1884, Tome II, page 124. Born Marie Edmé Patrice Maurice MacMahon in 1808, a descendant of "Wild Geese", he became a Marshal of France, was in 1859 made Duke of Magenta and elected President of France 1873-1879 and died in 1893. He is a kissing cousin of ours as our maternal maternal family were McMahons we believe from the from the very same area of Ireland from which came Patrice MacMahon's ancestors. MacMahon is an alternative spelling of McMahon. The Current Duke is believe to inhabit the Chateau de Sully in the Loire Valley. Likely built for the Duc de Sully, Henri IV's Great Minister, we thought the Chateau belonged to the Sully family when we visited it in 1969 where we admired the roof beams still in perfect condition after hundreds of years. Little did we know the place belonged to our cousin or we would have knocked on the door to the private quarters to visit.

The artwork is a rendering by John Hamilton Gaylor.
