Innes of Learney
Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, GCVO, WS, Advocate, FSA Scot.(1893-1971)

Arms: Quarterly, 1st and 4th Argent, three mullets Azure, a bordure chequy of the second and the first charged with as many crescents Gules ( Innes ); 2nd, Gules, three boars heads erased Or, armed proper and langued Sable (Aberchirder of that ilk ); 3rd, Or, a fess Ermine between three gryphons’ heads erased Vert langued Gules ( Brebner of Learney).

Sir Thomas born 26 Aug 1893, was Carrick Pursuivant 1926-1935, Interim Lyon Clerk May-Sep 1929 and Albany Herald 1935-1945. He was appointed Lord Lyon on 1 July 1945 and invested with the KCVO by King George VI in 13 June 1946 at Holyrood House. Author of “Scots Heraldry”, “the bible” of 20th century Scottish heraldry. He was promoted GCVO by Queen Elizabeth II on 10 June 1967. He retired as Lyon in 1969 and was appointed Marchmont Herald. He died 16 Oct 1971.
