Colonel William Paret Boswell of Toberchurn, CHCRP, LOM, CStJ, KGCHS, CVV, GCSMA, GCM, FSA Scot, FABF, FSSA, FACH, BA (Hons.), JD, LLD, USAF (Ret.) Born in 1946 he was the Chairman of the Society of Scottish Armigers (SSA) from 2008-2012, he is also (inter alia) a mayor (emeritus since January 2014), a retired substantive (full) colonel in the USAF, a holder of the US Legion of Merit, a Commander of the Most Venerable Order of St John, and a Knight Grand Cross of the (Papal) Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. In 2013 he received an LLD honoris causa.

HRH Dom Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganca, created him a hereditary knight (CHCRP = Cavaleiro Hereditario da Casa Real Portugesa de Braganca) by Letters Patent in 2015 for services to the Royal House of Portugal, an honor rarely conferred. In 2016, HRH awarded him the Banda (Grand Cross) of the Order of Merit of the Portuguese Royal House. Previously, HRH had conferred upon him the distinction of a Knight Commander of the Order of Vila Vicosa. He also holds the Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael of the Wing.

A friend of long standing, he is one of a group of friends who own lands on the Isle of Sanday in the Orkneys. The grant is reflective of his descent from the Boswells of Balmuto, Fife.

The artwork is an interpretation by John Hamilton Gaylor.
