Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, 16th Duke of Hamilton, was born on 31 March 1978 to Angus Douglas-Hamilton 15th Duke of Hamilton and his first wife Sarah Scott, He was educated at Keil School, Dumbarton and Gordonstoun in Scotland. He succeded to the Dukedom upon the death of his father on 5 June 2010.
The Dukedom of Hamilton is the premier peerage & dukedom in the Kingdom of Scotland, and the third senior dukedom in the UK; it was created in 1643 by King Charles I. The Duke also holds the Dukedom of Brandon in the Peerage of Great Britain as well as many, many other titles. He is Chief of Hamilton and senior agnatic representer of Douglas. His seat is at Lennoxlove.
The duke also is the Hereditary Keeper of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Hereditary Bearer of the Crown of Scotland. He married, on 7 May 2011, Sophie Ann Rutherford. dqw 2012 0529
