Sir Arthur Balfour, 1st Baron Riverdale, GCB, JP, Bt. born on 9 Jan 1873 was a British steel manufacturer. Balfour was the son of Herbert Balfour. He was Chairman of Arthur Balfour & Co Ltd and of C Meadows & Co Ltd, both of Sheffield, Yorkshire. He was very active in committees, councils and associations and then was knighted in 1923, made a baronet in 1929 and created Baron Riverdale of Sheffield in the County of York on 27 June 1935.

Balfour married Frances Josephine Bingham, daughter of Charles Henry Bingham, in 1899. He died on 7 July 1957, aged 84, and was succeeded in his titles by his eldest son Robert Arthur Balfour as the second baron. Robert lived from 1901 to 1998.
Robert Balfour’s oldest son was the Hon. Mark Robin Balfour who lived from 1927-1995 and he had three children: His son Anthony Robert Balfour 1960- who is the 3rd and current Baron Riverdale, and two daughters: Nancy Ann 1963- and Kate Frances 1967-.

Baron Riverdale is of interest as his great granddaughter, Nancy Ann Balfour, was a friend of ours many years ago.
