Hector Sutherland MacDonald was born in 1954 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England and holds a B.Sc. [Hons] in Biochemistry and Physiology from King’s College, Newcastle University, and an MA in Education Management from King’s College of London University and his career has been in academia. Much of his free time has been spent in Scotland, particularily on Benbecula where he has cousins.
He hails from a staunch Jacobite family, a MacDonald of Benbecula, a cadet of Clanranald. Hector is a life member of the Royal Stuart Society, and studies family history while indulging his interests in heraldry and the conservation of Castle Borve on Benbecula, the family home until 1622. He is today a Finlaggan Counsellor, Castle Borve Chair, to the High Council of Clan Donald Chiefs.
It is interesting to note that MacDonald's parents were code breakers during World War 2 with the Royal Navy.
The artwork is an interpretation of an artist at Lyon Court.
