Blazon: Argent, a cross from the medal of St. Benedict, Sable charged at the center point with a fleur-de-lis Argent, between twelve goutée de sang, three in each of the four quadrants; all within a double tressure, Gules.

Bishop Gerry was one of the three auxiliary bishops of the Diocese of Manchester, NH to date and which was our diocese in our younger formative years so remains important in our life.

Bishop Joseph John Gerry, OSB, was born in Millinochet, Maine on 12 Sep 1928. In July 1948 he became a Professed Member of the Order of St. Benedict. On 12 June 1954 He was ordained a priest of Order of St. Benedict by Bishop Matthew Francis Brady, Bishop of Manchester.

He was appointed as the 2nd Auxiliary Bishop of Manchester, on 4 Feb 1986 with his principal consecrator being Bishop Odore Joseph Gendron, Bishop of Manchester. His co-consecrator was Bishop Ernest John Primeau, Bishop Emeritus of Manchester.

On 21 Dec 1988 he was appointed as the 10th Bishop of Portland, ME. Bishop Gerry resigned as Bishop of Portland and retired in 2004

In retirement Bishop Gerry lived in Manchester, NH died there on 2 July 2023, age 94 and is buried St Anselm Abbey in Manchester.
