Kenneth Lee McInnis was born in 1954 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA, however being an Army brat, considers Dothan, Alabama as his home town. However, he joined the Air Force and was trained in communications. After this, he completed college with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree at Troy State University. He was accepted into the CIA and served as an Officer there until retirement. He is married with four sons and one daughter.

He petitioned the Lord Lyon for arms on behalf of his 5th great grandfather Duncan McInnis and on his own behalf. Arms were granted to Duncan McInnis and matriculated to Kenneth Lee McInnis. This is documented on the 42nd page of the 94th Volume of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland on 27 September 2019. At the same time, he applied for and received a Pennon with his arms and motto, Dare to Defend, displayed thereon.

His eldest son and heir apparent is Carl Brian McInnes. His younger sons have applied for matriculations of their own which are presently in the painting queue.

The artwork is a rendering by Maggie Spalding.
