AAA Preface
Introduction

For some years we have desired to have and build our own armorial. In mid 2007, the opportunity arose where an heraldic artist agreed to work with me to create the shields we desired and to create masters for table banners (TBs) from which we could print the TBs out and glue them to poles to be positioned and hung from beams, etc. around our home. The shields serve a dual purpose as images for armiger pages in our armorial book and for a prospective online armorial. The artist, John Hamilton Gaylor, has been a creative and patient workhorse turning these arms and TBs out and in many cases correcting our amateur blazons. We are eternally grateful for his verra able assistance ! Then we need to acknowledge the help of our webmaster for setting us up with this mini site in which we might work.

Who get chosen to be entered ? This is the fun of having our own armorial, we do the choosing and get to set the rules… As an example, we use shields alone as that is the primary means of heraldic identification. The trappings and additaments of heraldry and titles are secondary and do not concern us here.

We have chosen to pick friends Romans and countrymen … and relatives, kissin’ cousins, friends and historical personages as well as a few fictional characters, fun souls all. For the living we normally ask if they would like to be included. In a few cases we havena asked, and can’t ask in the case of the departed. We sometime ask for biographic information, but we choose the content to put up. So far we have 103 arms uploaded with more arms ready to go as soon as we have time to research and write the text of personages in whom we are interested with more to have painted and sincerely hope the artist outlives us in these efforts.

We will have been seen to use the term "kissin' cousin", the phrase has two meanings: [1] indeterminate cousin or [2] an unrelated person we'd like to consider ourselves close to. When the kissin' cousin in question is female we might actually be observed kissing her hand.

We have divided our armorial into sections, currently they are:
Wedvick Armorial, for arms and persons in general A,
WA Auld Scots Heralds & Authors, of the past, mainly deceased B,
WA Religious, for religious persons and their arms C,
WA Hundred Years War, for some of the arms and persons living in that period D.
Additionally, some of our files are found in the albums
Officers of Arms E. and
Arms – Chiefs and Peers F.

Oh yes, to whom belong the four flying TBs ? They are left to right: Admiral Lord Nelson, Pope Pius IX, Nicholas Järnefelt, Admiral Lord Exmouth.... see the individual files.
