Blazon: Gules, a mount of seven hills formal two, two, two and one and diminishing from tier to tier Or, and in chief between two fleurs de lis Or a fountain.

Bishop Ernest John Primeau was appointed as the 6th Bishop of Manchester, New Hampshire on 27 Nov 1959 to replace Bishop Brady who had had died on 20 Sep 1959. Born on 17 Sep 1909, he was ordained a Priest of Chicago by George William Cardinal Mundelein on 7 Apr 1934. (See his file)

Bishop Primeau was the first Manchester bishop of the Second Vatican Council era. He attended sessions One through Four of Vatican II. He ordained Francis Joseph Christian a future Auxiliary Bishop of Manchester. Bishop Primeau resigned as Bishop of Manchester on 30 Jan 1974.

In retirement he was Principal Consecrator of Bishop Odore Joseph Gendron who replaced him as Bishop of Manchester on 3 Feb 1975.

Bishop Primeau lived on as Bishop Emeritus of Manchester and died on 5 Jun 1989 at age 79.
