Malcolm Rognvald Innes of Edingight born in 1938 is the third son of Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, GCVO and was first appointed as Falkland Pursuivant of Arms Extraordinary in 1957 at age 19, then Carrick Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1958 and as Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records in 1966 and as Marchmont Herald of Arms in 1971 upon the death of his father. In the same year he became an member of the Royal Company of Archers. Sir Malcolm was appointed the Lord Lyon in 1981 and was given the CVO in the same year. In 1990 he was promoted KCVO. He served as Lord Lyon and as Secretary to the Order of the Thistle for twenty years until 2001. After retirement he was appointed as Orkney Herald Extraordinary. He was preceded as Lord Lyon by Sir James Monteith Grant, 1969-1981 and was succeeded as Lord Lyon by Robin Orr Blair, CVO, 2001-2007. dqw
