The “Attributed Arms” of Jesus Christ, in the Instruments of his Passion, date to the Middle Ages when they were widely used, an example is a seal of the Vice Custos of the Grey Friars at Cambridge cut in the mid 13th century between 1240-1246 which may be found in the British Museum and which is very similar to the representation used here.
The artwork is a rendering by John Hamilton Gaylor.
