Born on 8 May 1895, Ordained on 20 September 1919, Consecrated as a Bishop 11 June 1951, appointed Bishop of Rochester, NY on 26 October 1966 by Pope Paul VI, named Archbishop of the Titular See of Newport ( Wales ) in 1969 and as assistant at the Pontifical Throne in July 1976.
Msgr. Sheen was a famous speaker as a priest on the radio and possibly the first televangelist, he died on 9 December 1979, age 84. On 14 September 2002 the Cause of Archbishop Sheen was opened and as of 28 June 2012 he was conferred with the title Venerable Servant of God. We remember well loving to watch Bishop Sheen on his TV show “Life Is Worth Living”.
