[15] The last Baronet of Nova Scotia
|
Arms: Or a fess chequy Azure and Argent within a double tressure flory counter flory Gules.
We need to indicate that these are the arms of the head of the family of Stewart of Bute later to become the Earls and Marquess’ of Bute before marshalling their arms with Critchton. We have seen no indication that Sir Robert used arms and nothing to indicate he didn’t. Checking in Ordinary I, it can be seen that Sir Robert did not matriculate arms. This was not uncommon in the early days of the Public Register for sons of important men not to bother matriculating according to Mrs. C. W. Roads, LVO, Snawdoun Herald, whom we thank for the information. So, the arms depicted are simply the arms of his father, older brother and nephew, the first Earl of Bute.
For aught yet seen, the Junior most and last Baronet of Nova Scotia
