Xavier I. F. Rippon, a living armiger and French citizen, was the contest winner of
the first “Name that Laird” contest naming the Marquis of Huntly as the laird in question on the Society of Scottish Armigers’ website. In addition, he correctly identified the four quarters of the Marquis of Huntly’s arms. M. Rippon stated that he is not a member of the SSA or the HSS nor on Facebook. He went on to explain that he is “a Frenchman who has Scottish origins lost in the troubled history of the 18th century” And that his, “family is still tied to the Mackenzie clan today”.

It is our hope Xavier Rippon will go on to win more such contests as a challenge to our own members.

The artwork is a rendition by John Hamilton Gaylor
