SOURCE/NOTES & CREDITS:
An uradel Norwegian noble family, one of the few known from the middle ages before Norway came under the sway of Denmark. Dating for Jon Tordsen Benkestok is 1435. "Danske adelsvåbener", 1973, page 316; NDA, page 25; DAÅ 1887, page 42; and "Slægten Benkestok", Oslo, 1985. The Benkestoks are believed to be our ancestors in the paternal maternal line through the Kristoffersens of Bodø, Nordland Province, Norway. dqw
