Sir Michael Francis O’Dwyer, GCIE, KCSI

ARMS: Argent, a lion rampant gules between three ermine spots.

SOURCE, NOTES & CREDITS:

Arms from the "Armorial General", J.B. Rietstap, 2nd Ed., 1884, Tome II, page 338. Sir Michael was born on 28 April 1864 and died by assassination in London on 14 March 1940. Subsequent to his appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab Province in India in 1914, he was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Star of India and later made a Knight Grand Commander of the Indian Empire.

Author of "The O' Dwyers of Kilnamanagh", 1933, the definitive history of the O' Dwyer Clan and Sept. He was also the author of “India as I Knew It 1885-1925”, 1925, recalling his service in India. We are fortunate to possess the copy of this book once owned by King George V which he gave to his Scots gilly, William MacGregor on 5 Oct 1927...

Sir Michael is a kissing cousin of ours as our maternal paternal family are O' Dwyers from Co. Clare and Co. Tipperary in Ireland. Alternative spellings of O’Dwyer are Dwyer or O’Duiblir. dqw 2013 0921
