Lord Cochrane (1775-1860)

Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane, GCB, 14 Dec 1775 - 13 Oct 1860, was the 10th Earl of Dundonald and 1st Marquess do Maranhaño ( Empire of Brazil ) he was styled Lord Cochrane between 1778 and 1831. An outrageously daring and successful naval officer of the Napoleonic Wars, a radical politician who gave the British political establishment fits, he later became a senior flag officer of the Royal navy. He served as a flag officer in the rebelling naval forces of Chile, Brazil and Greece. He served as the model for the novels of Capt. Marryat ( who served under him as a Midshipman ), G.A. Henty, C. S. Forester and Patrick O’Brien. dqw 20090926
