05. Katherine de Roët
Arms: Gules three wheels Argent

Katherine de Roët was born circa. 1350 perhaps on 25 Nov, the feast day of St. Catherine of Alexandria. She died 10 May 1403, age 52-53

She was the elder daughter from the second marriage of of Sir Gilles /Paon de Roët to an unknown lady.

Whilst she had a half sister and half brother from Sir Gilles first marriage, also to an unknown lady, Katherine also had a younger full sister Philippa born in 1351/2 who grew up to marry the poet, Geoffrey Chaucer. Philippa died in 1387.

Katherine’s father, Sir Gilles or Paon de Roët, Kt., a herald and King of Arms for Guienne, was knighted shortly before he died. He was buried St. Pauls Cathedral.

Katherine as her father’s daughter got to use his arms, the blazon is Gules three Wheels Argent which is also shown above. Katherine's sister, Philippa de Roët was also entitled to use these arms.

She married first circa. 1363 Sir Hugh Swynford ( born circa. 1340 died in 1371 )

The Swynford arms: Argent a chevron Sable between three boars’ heads couped Or.

Her marital arms were his arms impaled by hers. These marital arms appeared on her seal of circa 1377 which no longer survives.
