Arms: Parted per dance Argent and Gules a dance flory parted per dance Sable and Argent.

Crest: A demi-griffin Sable armed Or, holding a Key palewise its wards in chief and to the rear.

Motto: Staturam Metire ( Measure Stature )

SOURCE/NOTES & CREDITS: The illustration of arms, blazon and text adaption are based on the Letters Patent of the arms granted to Archibald Rae Gaylor, father of the armiger, entered in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, Volume 61, page 90, 16 Nov 1978; and pp 14-15, "The Double Treasure", Volume 18, 1996. Additional information was also provided by the armiger.

John Hamilton Gaylor, BScEng. The armiger was born on Easter Sunday 1938
( 17 April ) inherited the arms upon the death of his father in 1996. Having received his degree from the Univ. of East Africa and as a sometime Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, he became a land surveyor in Kenya, Tanzania, Bahrain, Trinidad and the Cayman Islands and from 1994 to retirement a cartographer in the United Kingdom.

John has been a lifelong heraldic enthusiast from the age of 15, specialising in Scots heraldry. Author of numerous heraldic articles from the 1960s on, and latterly, user of cartographic software for armorial illustrations. In addition, he has been responsible for most of the artwork produced for this website and for numbers of books published for others. Needless to say, John has been a friend of many years standing !

John Gaylor married Eleanor Ann, daughter of Harold Mence Gardner, OBE on 19 Dec 1964 in Katen, Nariobi. They have issue: a son and two daughters.

It is to be noted, his son and heir, William Hamilton Gaylor born in 1968 bears the arms with an Azure label, William's elder son Thomas Edward Amphlett Gaylor bears these arms with an Azure label of five points. His younger son, (Teddy) Edward James Hamilton Gaylor arms were matriculated at Lyon Court in Volume 92, page 37 on 17 Jan 2019 as Parted per fess Argent and Gules, a fess dancetty flory at the points parted per fess dancetty Sable and of the First, a bordure Or.

John's daughter Katherine Amphlett differences with a crescent Gules in chief, and his daughter Elizabeth Ann with a star Gules in chief. The daughters' arms have been matriculated, Lyon Register, Volume 66, pages 5 and 6, in 1981.
