Greenhill's Archibald the Grim
A typical creation of Peter & Gilly Greenhill: Archibald Douglas the Grim later the 3rd Earl of Douglas, cast polished and painted in 2011.

The miniature shows him as he might have been as he was fighting with the French at the Battle of Poitiers on 19 Sep 1356 where he was captured by the English but ransomed by William Ramsay of Colluthy for 40 shillings by saying he was only an esquire impersonating his master and gave Archi a cuff on the ear for good measure.

Archi, became Sir Archibald, then Lord of Galloway and finally the 3rd Earl of Douglas becoming one of the most powerful Scottish border magnates... but managed to die in his bed on Christmas Eve 1400 in his stronghold of Bothwell Castle.

Archi stands about 1 7/8" high, was cast in pewter. Greeenhill Miniatures are considered amongst the very cream of the finest of miniature knights.
