George Burnett, L.L.D. Lord Lyon 1866 to 1890, the first modern Lyon after the Earls of Kinnoull, he is remembered today for his book, “A Treatise on Heraldry, British and Foreign” co-authored with the Rev. John Woodward, FSA Scot, published the year after Burnett’s death in 1891. An advert for the book appeared in the “Heraldic Exhibition Edinburgh MDCCCXCI Catalogue” complied by Francis James Grant, Carrick Pursuivant.

Lord Lyon Burnet was preceded by Thomas Hay-Drummond, 11th Earl of Kinnoull, 1804-1866 and was succeeded by Sir James Balfour Paul, KCVO, 1890-1926.
