The late Baronetess of Maxwell Macdonald is the latest baronetess to have lived in the United Kingdom.

Sir John Maxwell 1st Baronet of Pollok born circa 1650 was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia, 12 April and sealed 25 May 1682, with extension of that dignity, in virtue of another patent, 27 Mar 1707, to his heirs of entail whatsoever in his lands and estates. He died on 4 July 1732 and was succeeded by his cousin and male heir, Sir John Maxwell, 2nd Bt. of Pollok, before of Biaworthill.

Sir John Maxwell 8th Bt of Pollok, born 12 May 1791, died without issue 6 June 1865 when the baronetcy devolved in pursuance of the limitation of the patent of 1707 upon his nephew:

Sir William Stirling-Maxwell, 9th Bt. K.T., who assumed the name Maxwell after his patronymic Sterling…Born 8 Mar 1818 and died 15 Jan 1878 and was succeeded by his elder son:

Sir John Stirling-Maxwell of Pollok, 10th Bt. K. T(1929). born 6 June 1866 and succeeded on 15 Jan 1878, married 12 Nov 1901 Anne Christian, daughter of Sir Herbert Eustace Maxwell, 7th Bt. Monreith and had issue: a daughter: Anne Stirling-Maxwell born 8 Sep 1906. Sir John died 30 May 1956. Upon his death in the baronetcy became dormant .

His daughter, Anne Stirling-Maxwell, born 8 Sep 1906, married 22 Apr 1930 John Moreton Macdonald of Largie and assumed the name Maxwell Macdonald. They each matriculated their arms in Lyon Court on 16 Sep 1933. They had issue: two sons the elder being John Ronald Maxwell-Macdonald, born in 1936. At some point after 1956, Anne Maxwell Macdonald submitted a petition to Lyon Court for recognition as 11th Baronetess Maxwell Macdonald of Pollok and 49 years after her father’s death this recognition was granted in 2005 by Lord Lyon Blair.

Dame Anne Maxwell Macdonald, 11th Baronetess of Maxwell Macdonald of Pollok

Dame Ann died on 21 Apr 2011, age 104, but for about 5 or 6 years she was the only living Baronetess.

She was succeeded by her elder son Sir John Ronald Maxwell Macdonald as 12th Baronet of Maxwell Macdonald of Pollock, born in 1936. He married and has an heir: John Ranald Maxwell Macdonald, born 1965.

Notes: Baronetess, there have been only four of these in the British Isles, all were Nova Scotia creations and none are now living. The last living Baronetess was the subject, Dame Anne, from 2005 to 2011.

Baronets apparently can change their surnames at will which makes for interesting research. This baronetcy is one of those going from Maxwell of Pollok to Stirling-Maxwell of Pollok to Maxwell Macdonald of Pollok currently.
