Hartford Archdiocese
BLAZON OF ARMS:

SHIELD: Gules and a base barry wavy of six Argent and Azure overall a hart trippant Or supporting with its dexter foreleg the staff Or of a long swallowtail banner in chief Argent charged with a Scandinavian cross Gules.

SOURCE/NOTES & CREDITS: Illustration for background and text adapted from the website of the Archdiocese. The blazon for the arms was re-written by John Hamilton Gaylor for which we thank him. Hartford, CT was established as a diocese on November 28, 1843 by Pope Gregory XVI and was created as an archdiocese by Pope Pius XII on August 6, 1953. The arms were designed by Pierre de Chaignon Larose and have been used since Bishop John J. Nilan’s term as seventh Ordinary of the See, 1910-1934.

There have been six archbishops to date:

[6] The Most Reverend Christopher J. Coyne 2024-date

The current Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Hartford is the Most Reverend Christopher James Coyne who was born in 1958 and who is a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, serving as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Hartford in Connecticut since May 1, 2024. See his own entry for his particulars.
