The Lindtmans were a typical family who rose from the manor-owning gentry through an officer's commission to the nobility of Sweden and Finland and then faded away back to gentry and NCOs. Captain (later Major) Hans Lindtman of the Tavastehus Infantry Regiment was raised to the nobility 1652 together with his brother Wilhelm. The family owned the manor of Immala in the parish of Uskela (now the town of Salo ) near Turku, Finland and they seemed to have used the name Lindtman before ennoblement. The family became extinct in the male line in the middle of the 19th century. There were branches living in Sweden and in the Baltic provinces. Henrik Degerman descends in the female line from the Lindtmans, his mother's mother's father's mother's mother's mother would have been a Miss Lindtman.
