Melchtide of Saxony
St. Melchtide (Matilda) von Hackeborn und von Wippra

ARMS: Argent a demi-hound rampant sable, collared gules.

Arms are from "Armorial General", by J.B. Rietstap, 2nd Ed., 1884, Tome I, page 866.

Born 10 April 1240/1, died 19 Nov 1298, Melchtide ( Matilda ) to the high noble Thuringian family of von Hackeborn and von Wippra at their castle and estate of Heltfa near Eisleben. They were great nobles and powerful barons and counts in Saxony, Germany.

A nun of great sanctity in the Monastery of Heltfa, and when novice mistress, she was given charge of a five year old orphan, who in the fullness of time, became St. Gertrude the Great. St. Melchtide is best remembered for handing down the devotion known as The Three Hail Marys.
